Fit / Sizing

Frame Dimensions

Not sure which frame would fit you best? As a reference, we suggest measuring your favorite pair of eyewear to find the best fit! All Felix Gray frame dimensions are listed below in millimeters.

Frame (Size) Lens Width Nose Bridge Arm Length Lens Height Total Frame Width
Turing (Small) 45 mm 21 mm 140 mm 37 mm 126 mm
Roebling (Small/Medium) 49 mm 18 mm 140 mm 39 mm 133 mm
Nash (Medium) 49 mm 17 mm 140 mm 36.5 mm 135 mm
Hopper (Medium) 49 mm 18 mm 145 mm 38 mm 135.5 mm
Kepler (Medium) 49 mm  21 mm 145 mm 40 mm 136 mm
Faraday (Medium/Large) 53 mm 17 mm 145 mm 36 mm 136.5 mm
Jemison (Large) 52 mm 18 mm 145 mm 41 mm 140 mm

Curious about what the information on the inside of the left arm of your frame means? The name of the frame is always listed (so, below, you are looking at a "Jemison" frame) and the "C/number" refers to the acetate color of the frames (so, below, "C3" means black). For more information, see below for a quick explanation:

Helpful Hints

Keep these tips in mind when dreaming up which pair of Felix Grays would best suit you:

- Glasses should stay put on your nose (pro tip: for low nose bridges, try the Faraday!)

- Eyebrows (no matter how thick or thin) should not be hiding below or make contact with the frames

- Bottom of the lenses should not rest on those lovely cheeks of yours

- Pupils are aligned near the center of your lenses

- Arms should extend straight back, making contact with your face just before your ears. If they're too snug against your temples, we suggest a larger frame

Low Nose Bridge

Looking for a low nose bridge fit (meaning, the bridge of your nose starts level to or below your pupils)? Both the Nash and Faraday have our narrowest nose bridge at 17mm, and the Kepler has adjustable nose pads which help the frame rest comfortably and soundly on your nose.

Either way, the smaller nose bridge and adjustable nose pads mean less time pushing the frame back to its rightful place or having the frames constantly rest on your cheeks.

Frame Malleability

We designed Felix Grays with a malleable acetate frame, allowing your pair to mold to your unique fit over time. We source our frames from Varese, Italy, so you can trust that you will look as confident as you feel!

If your pair gets a tad bent-out-of-shape through regular use, gentle adjusting at the nose bridge and arms will get your Felix Grays back into perfect shape! You can shape them yourself or take them to an optical provider to adjust them perfectly to your face. It's a quick an easy fix!

Prescription

How do I obtain a prescription?

Make an appointment with your local optical provider, optometrist, or ophthalmologist for an eye exam. Make sure to request that they include your pupillary distance (PD) with the prescription.

Feel free to email help@shopfelixgray.com with any questions about whether or not we can fill your order.

How do I submit my prescription?

When you've chosen your Felix Gray frames, upload an image of your eyeglasses prescription during checkout. Alternatively, you can select to send your prescription to us at a later date.

If you select the latter option, you will automatically receive an email prompting you to reply with your prescription attached.

Or, you may fax your prescription to (646)-968-0608. Please be sure to include your name and order number! You can contact your doctor and request them to email or fax us your prescription.

How do I measure my pupillary distance?

Your pupillary distance (PD) is the measurement in millimeters between your pupils. It allows us to locate the optical center of your lenses so the prescription is correctly placed in the glasses. If your doctor did not include this measurement with your prescription, the following options are available to you:

- Measure your pupillary distance using our online PD tool

- Call your doctor or optical provider to request your PD measurement

- Visit an optical location to get your PD measured. This is either free or requires a small fee. Once you learn your PD, please email it to us at help@shopfelixgray.com with your order number

Can you fill my prescription?

We can fill prescriptions with a sphere value (SPH) between -6.00 and +4.00. We're able to fulfill prescriptions between +2.00 and -2.00 cylinder (CYL). If you have astigmatism, we need both your cylinder and axis values.

Deciphering a prescription may be tricky. If you have any questions about whether we're able to fill yours, email help@shopfelixgray.com with your prescription attached.

What is your return policy for Rx orders?

While all orders are limited to two prescription pairs of glasses per order, we still offer a 30-day risk-free return policy after the delivery of your order. We have free shipping, returns, and exchanges - always!

Feel free to email help@shopfelixgray.com with any questions, requests, or concerns.

Do you offer bifocals for ADD powers, prism, or progressives?

We do not offer bifocals for ADD powers, prism, or progressives at the moment. We can, however, complete single vision pairs of glasses from -6.00 to +4.00 for single vision power. If your prescription contains an ADD power, we're still able to accommodate the order as a single vision lens. Feel free to email us at help@shopfelixgray.com with any questions, concerns, or requests!

Reading and Non-Rx Options

What reader magnifications are available?

In addition to our non-magnified, +.25 lenses, and prescription offerings, we also carry stock reader glasses available in +1.0, +1.5, +2.0, +2.5 power. If you cannot find your exact prescription (i.e., +1.75), our New York-based consulting ophthalmologist claims that it is okay to jump up or down one-quarter diopter (so, depending on the recommendation of your eye doctor, either a +1.5 or a +2.0 would work for someone usually wearing +1.75). If you have a reading Rx, we're able to fill any spherical value up to a +4.00 for single vision powers. Unfortunately, we do not offer bifocals at the moment.

Can anyone wear non-Rx?

Yes (with contact lenses, if needed)! All non-Rx Felix Gray glasses are currently worn by those who use contact lenses, reader magnification or do not need a prescription. We also offer an optional +.25 magnified lens option to reduce stress on the ciliary muscle for those who are glued to their screens for hours at a time (think: analysts, designers, or coders).

Returns and Exchanges

Return Policy

Because we sell exclusively online, we offer a 30-day risk-free return policy after the delivery of your order! We have free shipping, returns, and exchanges if you decide a different frame would fit you better or want to change magnification.

If you DID create an account:

Log in to your account at the top, right-hand corner of our website. Click on the order number associated with the pair(s) you wish to return or exchange. Once there, clicking the “Return or Exchange” button prompts you to confirm your request and then automatically notifies our team. After that, you can kick back and we’ll respond to you via email as soon as possible!

You may also locate the email with your confirmation order. The email subject reads “Felix Gray Order Confirmation” and the sender is orders@shopfelixgray.com. Reply directly to that email with a brief reason why, and we’ll respond to you as soon as possible!

Helpful Hints for Exchanges

If you're interested in an exchange and are unsure of which style you want to try, measure your favorite pair of eyewear to get an idea of which Felix Gray frame would be the perfect fit! For reference, all frame dimensions are listed below.

A quick note on the Kepler frame - because of the different price points, if you wish to exchange from an all-acetate style to that one, you need to make a new purchase for the Kepler frame and return the current pair for a full refund! All other frames (that are priced at $95) are eligible for one-for-one exchanges, however.

Blue Light / Glare

Blue Light Exposure

Emitted by the light from our screens, blue light has the highest energy wavelengths on the visible light spectrum. Similar to how UV-light overexposure harms our skin, blue-light overexposure can lead to eye discomfort and irritation (think: eye strain, dry eyes, eye fatigue, blurred vision, headaches). Blue light also suppresses melatonin secretion - the neurotransmitter that tells our minds and bodies to power off at night - which is why it is harder to fall asleep after spending hours in front of our screens every day.

That’s where we come in! Felix Gray’s clear lenses are intentionally designed to filter blue light  - specifically, the highest energy wavelengths in the 400-440 nm range. Still interested in learning more? Head here to read on!

Glare Reduction

Glare is emitted from many sources of light, including digital screens (so, desktop monitors, laptop screens, phone screens, tablets, and TVs). It is a common and often overlooked culprit of Digital Eye Strain. Symptoms of DES (also known as Computer Vision Syndrome), include eye strain, dry eyes, blurred vision, and headaches.

That's where we come in! Our lenses have a premium anti-glare coating to eliminate 99% of glare, which optimizes our visual acuity.

Glare can be a particularly distracting and straining problem at night. It’s one of the reasons looking at screens in dark settings is even harder on the eye (helpful tip: keep lights on when you’re doing work in front of your computer! By doing so, your environment is better lit and the effects of glare are less intense). Because our lenses eliminate 99% of glare, our glasses can also assist with driving at night when the glare from other cars and surrounding lights are intensified.

Ultimately, Felix Gray’s anti-glare coating aims to provide sharper vision and more relaxed eyes. We are dedicated to making people’s lives happier in front of the screen, and we believe it’s critical that we use a premium AR coat to do exactly that.

Negative Effects of Screen Use

Humans are not meant to stare at screens - whether laptops, monitors, phones, tablets, or TVs - all day long. Our eyes are at rest when we’re looking 20 feet away. In front of our computer, though, we're staring 18-24 inches away for long periods of time. This overworks the ciliary muscle in the back of our eye, which is constantly spasming back and forth to adjust to the close viewing.

As a result, many ophthalmologists, optometrists, and researchers point to the potential negative effects that computer screens have on our vision and health. This includes Digital Eye Strain (also known as Computer Vision Syndrome) - which encompasses a variety of symptoms like dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, eye fatigue, and neck and back pain. Felix Gray lenses are specially designed to filter 50% of all and 90% of the most harmful range (400-440nm) range of blue light while eliminating 99% of glare to combat these negative and uncomfortable effects!

Lens Technology / Proper Care

Why Felix Gray lenses are better

We did the research so you don’t have to!

Here are the basics: your Felix Gray’s journey begins in Italy and ends on your doorstep. Our clear lenses will not distort your color perception or acuity, filter over 50% of all and 90% of the most harmful range (400-440nm) range of blue light, have a premium anti-glare coating that eliminates 99% of glare, offers 100% UV protection, and are smudge- and scratch-resistant. We use premium, imported Italian acetate and German steel barrel hinges for our handcrafted frames, and our patented lens technology is engineered in the USA. Because we own our supply chain, we are able to offer our glasses at an honest price, whereas traditional opticians would charge more than twice as much for the quality and effectiveness that Felix Gray provides.

There are two other ways to filter blue light as well. One is with a yellow tinted lens. While this is effective, it distorts color and, well, makes you look like Bono. The other is with an external coating, which is generally ineffective (typically filtering only ~25% of blue light and not targeting the highest energy wavelengths). Additionally, coats deflect the blue light so the lens appears blue when in front of a screen and often peel away over time.

We believe that Felix Gray lenses are the perfect balance between a clear, beautiful lens and an effective blue light filtering, anti-glare solution.

Nope, there aren't negative side effects!

Our eyes never evolved to stare at screens all day, so our blue light filtering lenses are only doing your eyes a favor and allowing for more comfortable and productive screentime. In fact, if you’re wearing non-magnified lenses, then you’re good to wear your Felix Grays both in and out of office settings!

However, if you decided on magnification (whether +.25 or a reader lens), then we recommend only using your glasses in close distance viewing. Regardless of magnification, though, your eyes will not become dependent on the positive effects of your Felix Grays!

Keeping your lenses clean

The microfiber cloth should be sufficient for cleaning any smudges or dirt from the lenses. Using lotion-free soap/dishwashing liquid and water with a microfiber/lint-free towel works as well!

We do NOT recommend using hot water or any chemical-based cleaners on the lenses, and be sure to NOT leave your Felix Grays in the car, on top of a heater, or in an enclosed, unvented space for extended amounts of time (especially during the hot summer months)! Heat and chemical reactions (from alcohol-based cleaning solutions, for example) can affect the AR coating.

Hairspray can also damage the integrity of the lenses' AR coating, so we suggest leaving your FGs off when applying hairspray and waiting for it to fully dry before your lenses come into contact with your hair (or any other hairspray-covered surface).

Do I need magnification?

Magnification is definitely not for everyone. Most of us are in meetings or talking with a colleague intermittently throughout the day, giving our eyes temporary breaks from the screen. If this sounds like you, then non-magnification will be your most comfortable fit.

But, if you’re glued to your screen and find yourself hunched over and squinting, then it may help! The optional +.25 magnification helps your eyes’ ciliary muscles work less when spending hours on end glued to your screen (think: coders, analysts, designers). Sounds like you? Our non-Rx, quarter magnification may help!

Something to note: customers feel relief from their Digital Eye Strain even if they do not opt-in for the +.25 magnification. You still receive the full benefits of our Blue Light filter and anti-glare coating (both of which are the "magic" behind our lenses) without the +.25 magnification. The downside to the magnification is that if you interact with your environment and keep your glasses on, they could cause some otherwise unprecedented irritation and disorientation (some customers do not experience this, though!). Ultimately, each person's eyes are different, which is why we offer free shipping, returns, and exchanges for the first 30 days after the delivery of your order!

Order Information

How do I cancel my order?

An order can only be cancelled and payment voided if it has yet to ship. Feel free to email help@shopfelixgray.com with an order cancellation request, and we will gladly accommodate your needs. However, if the order has already shipped, reach out to us upon delivery to initiate the return/exchange process!

What if the glasses I want are out of stock?

While we work as hard as we can to keep our virtual shelves fully-stocked, sometimes we do, indeed, sell out of a popular frame or color. We know, it’s a bummer for us too! If we are on backorder for a longer period of time, we email everyone on our mailing list once inventory is replenished and all frames are available for purchase again!

Do you have retail locations?

As a two-year-old startup, Felix Grays are sold exclusively online. We realize glasses are something people would like to try on before committing to, which is why we offer a 30-day risk-free return policy after the delivery of your order! We have free shipping, returns, and exchanges if you decide a different frame would fit best or want to change lens magnification.

To help determine which frame would fit you best, head to our Fit / Sizing page!

When can I expect my order?

Vision Insurance

Vision Insurance

Readers are always reimbursable. However, if you’re purchasing non-prescription lenses, we recommend following-up with your vision care provider to confirm if (a) they cover blue-light-blocking computer glasses and (b) if there is a minimum magnification required for reimbursement.

If there are any issues with reimbursement, reach out to help@shopfelixgray.com to request a more detailed invoice.
